Who we can support

Apply to become a Member of the Royal Navy Royal Marines Widows’ Association and you will join a network of widows and widowers who truly understand the trauma of bereavement. We attend events (any excuse for a new dress and or hat!), produce a Newsletter to share relevant information, interact via social media pages and groups, encourage you to contribute to and attend committee meetings and we seek opportunities to meet socially.

Facebook Page and Facebook Group

We have a Facebook page where you can update, like us and get an update on our news.  We also have a private Facebook group, only for members, where you can interact with others to make friends and share experiences.

Telephone Support

We are not trained Counsellors however we are delighted to talk if you need help with any practical issues or require information.

As an established Association we have contacts with a range of organisations and charities all of whom recognise our work. If we don’t know the answer to your question we will know someone who does! We have a wealth of information and resources that we can share with you.

Be-friending Service

We encourage members to be proactive and form friendships or social groups local to them. To ensure confidentiality and the security of personal information we will, with their permission, put you in touch with a Member in your area and or someone with commonality. Matching members has been really successful, and friendships have formed both for short-term and through particularly difficult times or for years as lives are re-built.

Socialising and inspiring others

We explore opportunities to get together and have had wonderful weekends away providing a chance to relax and chat with people who understand. Activities and breaks for children also bring members together and its always worth asking if you are taking on a personal or fundraising challenge for members to join you. Motivation and inspiration are actively encouraged!

News and Updates

We send out a newsletter (conscious not to exclude those not online, this can be posted) to share relevant information and encourage members to submit articles and stories. The Facebook page is updated on a regular basis and feedback from meetings is shared to ensure you have the opportunity to contribute to influence policy and training.

Our real-life experiences are much valued, and we work with the Royal Navy and Royal Marines and Ministry of Defence to improve their approach to the bereaved widows, widowers and recognised partners We ensure that the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Widows have a voice in the relevant forums with the MOD and other organisations.
The Association is run by a team of volunteers all of whom are themselves, widows.
